最新测算认为,海洋中漂浮微塑料颗粒有25万吨,总数5.25万亿颗。有观点认为,海洋中的污染物能够附着在这些微塑料颗粒上,被海洋生物吞食,进而影响海洋生态。国际原子能机构环境实验室表示,目前大块可见塑料对海洋环境的影响已经得到较多的研究,但微塑料颗粒的潜在危害还不很清楚。核与同位素科学能够对微塑料颗粒对海洋生物的影响研究做出贡献,其提供的信息可用于国家决策参考。
